Metaphores for Life

Our friend Michele has inspired me to think about metaphors (and similes!) What are metaphors for life-do these little cliches we use have value? Sometimes I think breaking things down helps us put them together in a new way that helps understanding.
  • Life is a carousel (sometimes you’re up, sometimes you’re down, and sometimes you just go round and round).
  • Life is a game of cards (you have to play the hand you are dealt) or as the song goes: you have to know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em...
  • Life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you respond to it.
I really like the last one. I feel as if many of the big troubles that happen to us are beyond our control but we CAN control how we react to the crap!

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

On a different, creative note, I found this artist on etsy:

Daddylonglegs papier mache scultures.

Have you ever seen anything so whimsical? Or this?

Just too sweet!

See you soon, Monday night at the String Alongs I hope!

One ought, every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832)
