Tough Weekend, but Better Now

Yeah, it was tough going this weekend-teenagerwise. (Is that a word?) Anyhow, being in close quarters with younger son Brian was a challenge. The weather kept us home most of the weekend and even McDonald's closed early Saturday night. Found marijuana in Brian's coat pocket. Of course, it wasn't his...he was holding it for a "friend." He is so stupid and disrespectful of us. Never does it occur to him that his lack of self-preservation impacts us as the people who are "responsible" for him. When he breaks the law it endangers us too. Plus, he has this attitude-so repulsive-You are ignorant of life-attitude. Well, believe it or not, I too was once 18 and if he keeps treating us like this, he can take his "adult" ass out of here and move in with his looser friends!

And Patrick spent the whole long weekend in his lounge pants playing Final Fantasy. Never helped with a thing in the house unless I insisted, which I did over and over, and he acted as if I was asking him to take on the job of Sisyphus. He maintains that it is his personality that makes him oblivious to the small niceties of housekeeping. Maybe so but I personally am sick to death of it all!

Do you know who Sisyphus was? Here is what Camus had to say about him:

The gods had condemned Sisyphus to ceaselessly rolling a rock to the top of a mountain, whence the stone would fall back of its own weight. They had thought with some reason that there is no more dreadful punishment than futile and hopeless labor.

If one believes Homer, Sisyphus was the wisest and most prudent of mortals. According to another tradition, however, he was disposed to practice the profession of highwayman. I see no contradiction in this. Opinions differ as to the reasons why he became the futile laborer of the underworld. To begin with, he is accused of a certain levity in regard to the gods. He stole their secrets. Egina, the daughter of Esopus, was carried off by Jupiter. The father was shocked by that disappearance and complained to Sisyphus. He, who knew of the abduction, offered to tell about it on condition that Esopus would give water to the citadel of Corinth. To the celestial thunderbolts he preferred the benediction of water. He was punished for this in the underworld. Homer tells us also that Sisyphus had put Death in chains. Pluto could not endure the sight of his deserted, silent empire. He dispatched the god of war, who liberated Death from the hands of her conqueror.

I also ran into a cool blog by Annalee Blysse a romance author. She has lots of book reviews and one of them was about an erotic romance called House of Dark Delights by Louisa Burton. It has a paranormal point of view and this really interests me.

This weekend I saw the movie Van Helsing With Kate Beckinsale and Hugh Jackman and I really loved it! It is so far past anything real that it is fun. I loved the special effect of the brides of Dracula flying around. They are just gorgeous and grotesque. And Kate Beckinsale had this outfit on for much of the movie that looked like her boobs were hanging out. Wanna see the outfit?

What was so funny about this outfit was the embroidery on her undershirt looked like two pink nipples under her jacket. It was, of course, intended but what a lot of guts someone had to design for her like that. I just thought it was a hoot and not to be taken seriously. I do recommend the movie for it's campy fun. And during the exciting scenes, I knit really fast!
Well, I am singing off now to go to lunch with my husband who has the day off.
Talk to you soon,
Lynda

Thanks for stopping by. I did enjoy HODD.

And as for Kate Beckinsale's clothing in that cold, cold Transylvania winter. I shivered for her.

Movie makers did that in the new King Arthur with Keira Knightley's clothing. They got me shivering for the actress.
